“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
In cycling, I use a lot of gears depending on the nature of the ride. My bicycle has gears for climbing uphill, downhill, and flat land.
I shift gears depending on the terrain so I can keep going. I don’t ever have to coast unless I want to, but when I do, it’s not for long because I start losing momentum, and in a race, that’s not something you want to do!
Very seldom do I coast, but that doesn’t mean I never slow down. The times I am slower are when the ride is harder. Cycling into a headwind or climbing a steep hill slows down my speed, but it doesn’t slow down my heart, lungs, and legs. They are working harder than when the ride is more relaxed. Sometimes the hills are so steep, and the wind is so strong that I am barely moving. It’s at those times I tell myself to keep pedaling, and press on.
Pressing on doesn’t look the same for everyone. Some cyclists get off their bicycle and walk up the hill, others take a short rest and some jump a ride in the sag wagon to the top, but either way, they are pressing on. To those who press on, quitting is never an option, only finishing the course.
In the race of faith, the Apostle Paul exhorts us to press on, and Timothy encourages us to finish. If you’re just getting started, stay the course! If you’re near the finish line, finish strong! If you’re tired or injured, rest up but get back in the race. You’re in the race to finish, and quitting is not an option.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
I enjoyed your post, Debbie. When cycling into the wind, you need to gear down and persevere during times of distress, we need to persevere clinging to our faith to finish strong. 🚴♀️🚴♂️

Loved how you used cycling to explain pressing on. Yes it might look different for different people but the goal is to finish the race. Being faithful till the finish- loved it 😊💙

What a wonderful hobby. I love how you highlight that pressing on looks different for everyone ❤️. My husband is a runner; he cycles sometimes – both are full of life lessons and analogies.
