“In the beginning, God……………..”
Tomorrow, January 1, is traditionally known as New Year’s Day, a day of new beginnings! Many will declare January 1 as a “fresh start” day by making resolutions they hope to keep!
If you make New Year’s resolutions, I challenge you to place God at the beginning and at the end of your list. When you pursue God above all else, everything in the middle should be a reflection of your pursuit, and if it’s not, don’t write it down.
But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. I Timothy 6:11
Backing your resolutions with scripture will keep you accountable and remind you “why” you wrote it down.
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
Remember, you need God!
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
And if you stumble and fall, begin again!
Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. Lamentations 3:23
Great is God’s faithfulness! Deb

Knowing that His mercies are new every morning, gives me strength to keep going, especially when I fail. Thank you for the great advice to examine our lists of resolutions in light of God’s perspective not ours.

What a GREAT post Ms. Deb! This is one to keep before our eyes, all year long. My favorite quote in this post was: “When you pursue God above all else, everything in the middle should be a reflection of your pursuit.” Indeed! Thank you for sharing this priceless wisdom!

I totally love what you said about putting God at the beginning and at the end, and that everything in the middle should reflect my pursuit of God. How many problems could we all avoid if we keep that advice! Thank you, Deb, and a very Happy New Year to you!

Deb, you read my mind. I have been reflecting on my three key words from last year: faith, family, and health. I want to make myself more accountable as you discuss, and I have been looking at Scripture covered in Sunday’s message at my church. I may post some details next week. I appreciate your post as it reinforces where I am going. God’s peace!
