With school around the corner, my mind is shifting into “school mode.” After reading a post by Brenda @ Becoming His Tapestry, I started thinking about our “intruder drill.”
I will always remember the first drill we practiced. The teacher sat down with the class and talked about what we needed to do if a person came into our school who wanted to hurt us. She told us our safe place was under the large semi-circle table in the corner of the room and to be very quiet so they could not find us.
At the appointed time, the Principal announced the code alerting us that an intruder was in our building. The children calmly and quietly walked to the safe place and hid under the table while the teacher and I turned off our lights, locked and barricaded the door. Once the teacher and I joined the children under the table, we spread our arms around them, sheltering them like a mother hen.
While we waited for the all-clear code, the question popped into my mind, “Are you willing to die for these children?”. Even now, as I type this, I am filled with emotion to the point of tears. I knew this was a serious question that demanded an honest answer. I knew if I couldn’t say “yes,” I wouldn’t protect them if it wasn’t a drill. Within a few seconds, I answered, “Yes, I would be willing to die for these children, and I would do whatever it took to keep them safe,” and I know the rest of our teachers would, too.
Every morning at school, when we have a “moment of silence,” I use my moment to pray. Most mornings, I pray for the same thing, “Jesus, thank You for being our Protector. Please continue to protect us. Please protect every school in the world.”
Thank you for keeping our schools in your prayers.
But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For you have been my stronghold and a refuge in the day of my distress. Psalms 59:26
I will be keeping all the schools in prayer for safety. It’s a shame what the world has come to. Thank God for you and all the other staff/faculty who have dedicated yourselves to the children. ❤️🙏🏿

Definitely will keep you in mind Deb. I usually pray each morning when I drop my son at school though lately I’ve been lazy in this regard and suffering from short term memory. Will pick this task back up and we will unite as we circle our schools and children (and teachers) in prayer. I’m glad Holy Spirit allowed you that moment of reckoning too ☺️

The world needs more people that are willing to put others before themselves. Thank you for protecting the children, with your life if need be. May you never have to go that far but thank you.
And thank you for posting this. We all need to know that those who are weak and vulnerable need others to step out in faith and stand with them in their weakness. Without that sacrifice evil would surely overwhelm them.
Blessings,
