Have you checked your pulse lately, or do you assume that since your heart is beating that you have one? I have to admit that I have a heartbeat and a pulse, but sometimes I do not feel as though I am “alive”. I mean, I’m doing all the things a person who is alive does, but I am not living. I have allowed disappointment and discouragement to deceive me into believing that the best I can do is to take life one day at a time and to put one foot in front of the other. Yes, I believe it’s best to take life one day at a time but to think that the only way to make it through the day is by putting one foot in front of the other, is not living, but “going through the motions”.
Maybe you’re feeling the same way. Life has been one big disappointment after another, and you’re not even sure you want to go on. You may not even have the strength to put one foot in front of the other, but long as you and I have breath and blood running through our veins, with God’s strength we can do more than go on, we can live!
King Hezekiah of the Bible wanted to live, too. He had more going on in his life than a few disappointments. He was mortally ill. While on the brink of death God sent the prophet Isaiah to him to deliver the message, “Set your house in order because you are going to die and not live.” When King Hezekiah heard the message, he turned his face to the wall and prayed. God answered his prayer by sending Isaiah back to King Hezekiah to tell him, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears, and I will add fifteen years to your life.”
What do you want God to do for you? Are you wanting more years, or do you want to live in the years that He has given to you? I want to live in the years He has given to me. Tell Him what you want. Say, Lord, I want to……..feel alive, laugh again, experience joy, live in freedom…………… Whatever you think you need, tell Him and thank Him even before the healing begins.
God bless you!
